Literacy (20mins):
This term we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians
with a particular focus on transport and communication. Your homework is to write a non-chronological
report about the Ancient Egyptians. You can
include any information you have learnt about the Ancient Egyptians. Think about how you will organise the
information. You may include the
following paragraphs;
The Rosetta stone
Hieroglyphs
Egyptian Ships
The Nile
Don’t forget to use all the writing features you
have been learning about in non-chronological reports.

• look at each word
• say the word
• copy the word in first space
• cover the words and try to write it from memory
• check to see if they are right
Introduction:
ReplyDeleteThe Egyptians lived about 3000 years ago. They lived in Egypt which is in North Africa. They had boats to cross the River Nile. They also had a Rosetta Stone.
The Rosetta Stone:
The Rosetta Stone is very important. It was the key to deciphering hieroglyphs. It was found by the French army who were enlarging a fort in 1799. However, in 1822, a man called Thomas Young fully translated it. The three languages is Ancient Greek, Demotic and hieroglyphs. It is now in the British Museum. It's had two trips in the underground in the first world war. The top bit is broken off.
Hieroglyphs:
Hieroglyphs is a language the Ancient Egyptians used. It is what Thomas Young translated. We still use hieroglyphs today.
Egyptians Ships:
The Egyptians used ships for lots of reasons. They used it for going to war, funerals stones for pyramids, etc. They went up and down the River Nile. It is important to live near a river for water.
The Nile:
The Nile was very important for the Egyptians. They went up and down it for a lot of reasons. All day long the Egyptians would row their boats with their oars up and down.
Introduction:

Rosetta Stone:
The Rosetta Stone is very important. It was the key to deciphering hieroglyphs. In 1799, a French army found the Rosetta Stone when they were enlarging a fort in Egypt. Eventually, in 1822, a man called Thomas Young fully translated it . The 3 languages are Ancient Greek, Demotic and Hieroglyphs. The top part has been broken off and no-one knows where it is. The Rosetta Stone has been in the British Museum ever since (apart from two trips to the Underground during the First World War).
Egyptians Ships:
The Egyptians used ships for too many reasons. They used it for funerals, war, cargo, etc. They use the Nile to get around.
The Nile:
The Nile is a river. It was very important for the Egyptians. They would row their boats across it all day. Also, they would drink water from it and throw all their waste in it. Most of the Egyptians would live near it for survival.
Hieroglyphs:
Hieroglyphs is an old language that the Egyptians used. Thomas Young fully translated it. We don't speak hieroglyphs today but we do know what words mean in hieroglyphs.

The Rosetta stone
The rosseta stone was discovered in 1779 when the French were digging up a fort.
It is basically a stone that has the hieroglyphs Written on it. It was de-coded in the year 1823.
Hieroglyphs
The Hieroglyphs are the language that the Egyptians used in the time they lived. The Hieroglyphs are basically the way that they wrote. E.G: a is a bird. You can search up them on the internet.
Boats
Boats are quite easy to explain. The boats are: Funeral boat (A boat that has dead people on it) , King boat(A boat that carries the king), Ferry(A boat that carries people and a Trawler (a boat that gets food for people).
Well done a great report. You have organised it well in paragraphs. Next tiem try to add a bit more detail to each paragraph.

ReplyDeleteThe Rosseta stone is in three languages.Heiroglyphics, greek and demotic. TheRosseta stone was found by two french soldiers who building a fort.the stone was also damaged and broken. It was found in 1799 and fully translated in 1822!! The stone is now in the british muesum in leisester square. And in Arabic its called Rashid patthar, because rosseta means Rashid

The Rosetta stone is a very big part of the ancient Egyptian times. It was found by a French army. But a century later in 1822 a man called Thomas Young translated all of the writing on the Rosetta stone, the writing was in Greek, demotic and hieroglyphs. The Rosetta stone is now in the British museum where it left for tourists to crack the code!
The river Nile/ships
The river Nile was used for plenty of things for transport it was mostly the main and the cheapest way to move around. The river Nile was used for funerals, goods, people and war. There was also place to get you permission to ride a boat , you hat to ask so special people who would give a ship of your kind .
Facts about ancient Egypt
1. Lot of the thing that where invented in ancient Egypt still use to day like a pen, paper locks, keys and believe it or not -tooth paste!
2. If you unwrap the bandage of a mommy I could be up to 1.6km yikes!
3. the pyramid of Kufu weighs up to 16 empire state buildings !
4.there are over 700 hieroglyphs in the Egyptian alphabet !
Hieroglyphics is one of the languages in the Rosetta stone!! Hieroglyphics is some sort of code writing. Hieroglyphs was used by slaves who transferred private messages!!

Egipt is an contry with alot of history and it has amazing pictures. The most intresting fing is the roseta stone the roseta stone is rien in 3 diffrent languges.The languges are hirglith egiptan and greek.Th e roseta stone was fond in1799by a french solger andit was fully translated in 1822.
