The day I met...

Hyde Park received this exciting and mysterious letter at the end of last week.

Wild Thing Publishing Co.
Read About It Road
London W2

Monday 17th March 2014

Dear Class,

Let me introduce myself; my name is Mr Wild E. Beast (you can call me Wil), and I specialise in publishing books on the Natural World. I am especially interested in rare and magical beasts, about whom we know very little.

As a publisher, I wish all of my new releases to be ground breaking! Therefore, I am writing from the Wild Thing Publishing Co. with a special request. Our newest and most exciting title is to be called ‘Wild Things Around The World’. I understand from my researchers that you have specialist knowledge in this field of learning.

I would like a collection of approximately thirty (30) beasts, including detailed descriptions of appearance (supported by diagrams of course); information regarding habitats, diet and hunting habits; any important adaptations; explanations about how the beast lives and, most importantly, whether or not they are a danger to humanity.

Of course, with your expertise, I am certain that you will be able to give me even more information than that – these are merely the guidelines I set out for all of my contributing authors.

I very much look forward to receiving your completed collection by the end of April 2014.

Yours Faithfully,

Wild E. Beast.

As well as replying to Mr Beast, and starting to write the Wild Thing profiles he asked for, we started to think about how we could write in the style of other genres.

One idea was to write a recount about the time you met or discovered the Wild Thing you are going to write about.

For your blog this week, this is what I would like you to do! (If you started this in class, you can either continue it on here, or choose a different text type!)

I look forward to reading your exciting, adventurous and imaginative blog entries!

I will be looking for correctly written sentences, interesting vocabulary and evidence of lots of thought!

I look forward to reading your blog posts - on paper or online - by Friday 4th April (I am a bit late posting this week!)
Miss  Joseph

  1. Hipponapina

A Hipponapina (the ' second n' is silent) it is rare of hippo's however they love cold places.

    APPEARANCE
Do you know what one looks like?A Hipponapina has big teeth that looks like bark which helps them to eat. These mysterious creatures have a navy dark green tadpole tale as a body. Their eyes are close together however they have bad eye sight. Underneath there head they have a bright spotty belly, they are a size of a cat and are gray and white all over (except for it's belly).

    HABITAT
A Hipponapina lives in the North or South Pole in the coldest part of the sea. They can be mostly be found at the bottom of the sea because there always hunted down by Arctic explorers.

    BEHAVIOUR
A Hipponapina behaves normally it shows no harm to any creature on land and in water. When it does something they weren't meant to do they act silly and do stuff to there mates, families and friends. If it is defeated by any other creature it'll stay and die in a hole.

  2. TRISEATO:

    Introduction
Although it is quite sneaky, the Triseato is only seen in the day.

    Appearance
Have you ever wondered how they look in appearance? Well Triseatos have thousands of scales although it is a small creature. It has a bluish tinge because it is mostly an aqua creature and because it can camouflage in the sea so none of it's enemies are aware of it's presence.

    Habitat
The Triseato lives in hot places: most in Pakistan and India. It can not ever cope with cold weather if it is in a blizzard for example, it will basically die in 30sec. Though it can only live in hot countries, only the lightest cold weather is when it can survive.

    Behaviour
Although most wild things are renowned for killing, Triseatos are shy creatures and are too scared to cause any harm. Most like to wake up early: They wake up 2:00am or 3:00am to catch their prey. Triseatos know that their prey comes out early so that is why it wakes up early.

    Conservation
These are creatures that show no danger to humans why do some people kill them? Well they are the people who think that natures creatures are harmful and they have no mind what so ever to give nature at least 1 little chance. We can not let these unmindful people to kill these innocent creatures so every winter just find a place indoors to keep Triseatos from dying badly.

    Yours sincerely

  5. The Hortex
The genre I have chosen is a report (fact file of the Hortex).
The Hortex isn’t a rare creature however it is extremely hard to identify one as they can be mistaken for the common Crestor. Only 63 have been seen but many people believe there are lots lurking in the wild.
It has thick layers of fur which changes according to the emotions of the creature. Green fur means that it is relaxed, orange means that it is upset and red means that it is livid. It has five eyes: there are two on the arms, two in the normal place on the face and one on the chest. The Hortex has blue bulging eyes which look like they are about to fall out of their sockets. It has fangs like vampire to suck blood from its victims. It has claws as sharp as a samurai sword. It has brute strength even though it is smaller then other creatures.
Hortex live in small family groups in forest. Female leads the group and hunt for prey whilst the males take care of the young. Their favourite food is wolves, beavers and hedge hogs. During hunting they stay calm & relaxed turning green so they are camouflaged by surrounding forest.
Hortex life expectancy is 18 years however their 1 year is same as 6 years of human life; although some have been known to live up to 30 years. Hortex is generally not aggressive unless provoked or its time to feed.
Hortex is an endangered species so it is important to keep their habitat clear of human settlement. Law must be passed which states that no humans should hurt Hortex or enter their habitat.

  9. Shookana Report

Introduction :Shookana is a calm and peaceful creature which has been identified
in southern parts of the Amazon rain forest.

Appearance: Shookana are small creatures, they are as minute as plankton. Their legs are as green as sprouts and their oval bodies are as blue as the Indian ocean.
Six transparent wings keep them hovering in the air. A silky rainbow tail swiftly trails behind them, it reaches the length of a Ferrari.
A maroon, football round face with two purple eyes upon it ,gives the creature the appearance of a squashed prune. A pair of bright orange antenna crown its head as it smiles benevolently.

    HABITAT
Shookana's live in the lush, leafy, Southern part of the Amazon rainforest. By day they hovers in the air waiting for a tasty morsel to arrive. By night most of them go to sleep on one soft, of the canopy tree leaves. Shookana's have adapted to there habitat by growing longer tongues so when they get to hot they can like their bodies. another adaption is that they have developed waterproof skin.

    BEHAVIOUR
While most wild things are renowned for being and loud possessive the Shookana is a calm and peaceful creature which Is not even in the slightest bit possessive. Shookana's diet includes : leaves, airborne bacteria, and forest fruits. their call consists of a sharp scream about as loud as a pin falling to the floor.

    CONSERVATION
To save this marvellous species all wild thing lovers shouldn't be tempted to by too many rainforest products as this wold destroy the Shookana's delicate eco system it realise on. Unfortunately however there are only about 100 Shookana's left in the wild as there habitat is being destroyed by us humans.

  10. When I woke up on a beautiful, sunny morning I said "Please can we go to the park?" "Of course we can," said mum. I could not wait to go to the park. I was looking forward to going on the slide, swing and much more. "I am going to pack a picnic," I said. I packed of healthy things to eat.

When I was walking down the park with my mum and dad, I said "Could I go and play now?" "Yes you can," said dad. As I came down the slide, I heard a strange groaning sound but I ignored it. I then went on the swing and I heard the noise again but I still ignored it. As I was going on the climbing frame, this two headed creature came out of nowhere. I turned my head to see if my mum and dad where there but they had disappeared. Suddenly I could not see anyone in the park, and at that point I felt scared and really worried. I ran through the gate as fast as I could. I looked over my shoulder to see if the two headed monster was behind me and it was! I ran and ran past trees, bushes and plants. I quickly hid behind a tree and saw the two headed creature searching for me. It had a purple and black body, big feet and the two heads were the size of an elephant's. I then ran back in to the park to get away from the creature. Suddenly I saw my mum and dad waiting near the play area. They asked me where I had been.
